Marlies is interested in the legal aspects of the use of digital technologies. Her Ph.D. thesis (2018) covered research on automated chain decision-making by the Dutch government and the consequences of the legal protection of its citizens. In 2021 she was awarded with the Hermesdorf Talentprize.
