Research has shown that social support is one of the most important predictors for the development of a posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a traumatic experience. Traumatic experiences and PTSD acquire meaning in relationship to others and have meaning to the loved ones of victims. This meaning is on one hand dependent of the developmental phase of the victim, on the other hand PTSD-symptomatology also affects the development of the victim. Elisa van Ee strives to contribute to an integrative perspective on psychopathology by analysing the interaction between individual, family en societal factors on trauma related psychopathology. With this perspective she aims to contribute to the improvement of mental health care. She is experienced in conducting research with refugee and veteran families, and mothers with children born of sexual violence.
