Theo Engelen has been Rector Magnificus of Radboud University until December 1, 2015. After studying History in Nijmegen and being awarded a PhD there in 1987, Theo Engelen decided to continue his career at Radboud University. In 2004, he became the Netherlands’ very first Professor of Historic Demography.
Theo Engelen’s research deals with marital and fertility behaviour in the Netherlands, specifically in comparison with that in China. He occupied various managerial positions before accepting the position of Rector, including Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
In addition to his academic work, Theo Engelen also writes children’s books. History plays a large part in these books.
