Pauline Ernste is CPO-professor. Her teaching and research remit is Dispute resolution in national and international legal practice. This is a two-year teaching and research remit for the CPO exchange chair, the chair of the Centre for Professional Legal Education. Pauline contributes to developing CPO study and course programmes, teaches, conducts research, and advises CPO on aspects of the teaching and research remit that are relevant to legal practice and its education and training needs. Pauline is also an Associate Professor at the civil law department. Pauline's research focuses on the entire breadth of civil procedural law, as well as on the various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
Pauline studied Dutch Law at Radboud University, graduating in both civil and criminal law in 2006. In 2012, she obtained her PhD with a dissertation entitled 'Binding Advice'. In her PhD, she used an internal comparison of binding advice with court proceedings to explore whether the substantive rules of the Dutch Code of Civil Procedure also apply in the binding advice procedure, and what obstacles are associated with binding advice. After completing her PhD thesis, Ernste spent two more years at Radboud University as an assistant professor. Pauline practiced as a lawyer in the period from March 2015 to May 2023. She assisted clients in national and international arbitration cases under various arbitration rules and related proceedings before the Dutch courts (including the Dutch Supreme Court). Pauline is a deputy-judge at the Court of Appeal Arnhem-Leeuwarden.
