Dr M.L. van Genugten (Marieke)

Marieke van Genugten studied public administration at the University of Twente. In 2008 she received her Ph.D. from the same university. Currently, she is associate professor in public administration at Radboud University. She specializes in local public management and governance. This includes two topics in particular. The first topic is arm’s length governance, in particular corporatisation, and the question of how municipalities can effectively steer arm’s length bodies such as (inter)municipally-owned corporations (MOCs) that fulfill an increasingly important role in the provision of local public services. The second topic is how to design municipal organisations and what individual competencies are needed to effectively cope with the challenges municipalities face.
