Martijn Gerritsen is a PhD candidate at Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and part of the Centre for Urban and Regional research (CentUR). His research is part of the EXPLORE project, which is embedded in the NWO-funded MARET program that investigates the societal aspects of the energy transition. His work explores the (possible) governance configurations of the regional energy transition, with a keen interest in the role of participation.

Martijn Gerritsen has a background in international relations and environmental policy (BA Liberal Arts & Sciences, Amsterdam University College, the Netherlands), urban studies (RMSc Urban Studies, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands), and geographical education and communication (MA Geography: Education & Communication, Utrecht University, the Netherlands). His work has been published in the Journal of Urban Technology, Tijdschrift voor economische en sociale geografie, and European Policy Review.
