Working days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Prof. Stan Gielen investigates how the human brain stores and processes information. To this end, he studies the coordination of arm, eye and head movements while measuring the activity of the nervous system (EMG, EEG). This fundamental research lays the foundation for applied research on artificial intelligence and for diagnostics and therapy for neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

Gielen is also involved in Brain Computer Interfacing, in which the activity of the brain is used to communicate with, for example, a computer, enabling the user to control the computer using only his thoughts.

Gielen's research forges a bridge between physics, biology, informatics and cognitive neurosciences.
