Dr V. de Gooyert (Vincent)
Associate professor - Methods
Dr. Vincent de Gooyert is Associate Professor at Radboud University. His research and teaching revolve around increasing understanding of, as well as intervening in, societal transformations towards sustainability. Vincent is trained both as an engineer and as a sociologist, and his work often aims to transcend disciplines, using and contributing to methods on stakeholder engagement, system dynamics, and socio-technical transitions.
Vincent was a visiting scholar at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Schulich School of Business, York University. His work is published in journals such as Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Technological Forecasting & Social Change, System Dynamics Review, and International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control. As a parttime associate of the Next Generation Infrastructures consortium he regularly collaborates with organizations such as Rijkswaterstaat, Vitens, Port of Rotterdam, Schiphol group, Alliander, Vitens, and ProRail.

- INSpECT: INfrastructure interdependencies in Sustainable and inclusivE CiTies. Cities are faced with the challenge of transitioning towards more sustainable modes of living. To achieve such structural change, neighbourhoods are investing in various infrastructures including those related to biomass, district heating, green gas, solar power, and hydrogen. Currently, knowledge on the potential of such transition pathways is very isolated. However, awareness is emerging that the interdependencies between these infrastructures is substantial. This project will explore these interdependencies to allow a more integrated approach towards strategic investments in transforming urban neighbourhoods. We will use participative modelling to integrate and synthesize disciplinary expertise, thereby generating new insights that transcend these disciplines. More information
- EXPLORE: EXPerimentaL gOvernance for the Regional Energy transition. The energy transition towards renewable energy changes our landscapes, but will also affect the social organisation of the energy system. Who will benefit and how can we organise the participation of citizens? This project gives insight in successful participation projects and provides governments with tools to test new governance models.
- C4U: Advanced Carbon Capture for steel industries integrated in CCUS Clusters. C4U is a holistic interdisciplinary project addressing all the essential elements required for the optimal integration of CO2 capture in the iron and steel industry as part of the CCUS chain. This spans demonstration of highly efficient CO2 capture technologies at TRL7 designed for optimal integration into an iron and steel plant and detailed consideration of the safety, environmental, societal, policy and business aspects for successful incorporation into the North Sea Port CCUS cluster. - Sustainable plastics. To mitigate climate change, the chemical industry considers large investments in bio-based plastics and plastics recycling via gasification and pyrolysis. However, more knowledge is required about the relative potential of these two deep emission reduction options. So far, studies mainly looked at their technological potential, but did not sufficiently address social aspects, while the behaviour of stakeholders across value chains is crucial. In this project, we directly collaborate with Chemelot, an industrial cluster in Limburg and co-funder of the proposal, to fill this research gap. We combine environmental life cycle assessment, participative system dynamics modelling, and ex-ante policy evaluation to assess the relevant socio-technical systems around circular plastics and bioplastics.
