Hans van Halteren has a background in computing, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, and machine learning. His main areas of research at the moment are forensic linguistics (e.g. authorship recognition and profiling), language variation (e.g. spelling and syntax), and processing of non-standard text (e.g. historical and social media text). His teaching comprises various subjects related to the use of computers for linguistic research, from teaching first year students of Linguistic about resources and programming to introducing the full width of language and speech technology to Research Master students.
