Wieke Harmsen investigates how language and speech technology can be employed to automatically assess children’s reading and spelling proficiency. Her work includes the development of innovative technologies that can efficiently analyze oral reading or written texts by primary school children to provide more detailed diagnostic insights on their reading and spelling proficiency. These insights can for example help teachers to tailor their instruction to the child’s needs.
