My PhD project is about the effect choices in language and style that people make. I study these effects in Dutch as well as in German and I also look at the similarities and differences between these two languages. To investigate the effect of language choices, I use a wide range of methods: from questionnaires to cognitive and psycholinguistic measures in the lab such as EEG and eye tracking. I am also interested in how the systems of pronouns of address in Dutch and German came about and for that I look at corpora of historical texts.
