Dr M.M.E. Hendricx-Riem (Madelon)

My research focuses on neurobiological aspects of parent–infant relationships. I study how hormonal systems that are essential for parenting can be disrupted by parental childhood trauma and psychopathology, including postpartum depression. By examining how this dysregulation affects interactions between parent and child, my work aims to contribute to a better understanding of the intergenerational transmission of vulnerability and resilience. In addition, I investigate protective factors within vulnerable families, such as social support and the role of broader family networks, including grandparents.

In addition to my position at Radboud University, I am a senior researcher at Psychotraumacentrum Zuid-Nederland, where I study trauma within families and help bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical practice.
