Prof. Jan Janssens conducts research into the effects of parenting. He studies both the positive effects (social, moral development) and the negative consequences of parenting (behavioural problems). He also investigates the effectiveness of parenthood courses, prevention programmes, and social care for families.

Janssens is a member of the Care for Youth programming committee of the Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw. He regularly appears in the media, stating his views on parenting and social care for families and children.
