My research vision centers on integrating microbial, modeling, and engineering insights to develop sustainable environmental biotechnologies and advance applied microbial ecology.

I earned my PhD at Ghent University, where I modeled and engineered anammox-based nitrogen removal—from lab-scale bioreactors to forecasts of future wastewater treatment plants. I then joined Politecnico di Milano on an EU project deploying anammox for decentralized industrial wastewater treatment. A BOF Postdoctoral Fellowship brought me back to Ghent’s Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology, where I led teams exploring thermophilic nitrogen-cycling microorganisms and nitrogen recovery for space missions.

In 2024, I joined Radboud University’s Department of Microbiology as a Radboud Excellence Fellow. Awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship in 2025, I aim to further unlock the potential of novel nitrogen-cycling microbes for carbon-neutral (waste)water treatment.
