Prof. Hans Kaanders specializes in radiotherapy of cancer in the head-neck region. He conducts research on the imaging of functional aspects of tumours, in which there is a constant interaction between laboratory research and clinical application. His group is mapping out the characteristics of tumours in patients as biological 'fingerprints'.

On the basis of this knowledge new forms of therapy can be better adapted to the individual patient. This will result in a better chance of recovery, less unnecessary side effects, and a reduction in the costs of expensive therapies.
