Valerie Knöpker is a PhD candidate within the NWO VIDI project “Tuning into Tensions: Music and Affective Polarisation in Protest Movements”, led by Prof. Melanie Schiller. Her PhD project focuses on the music of environmental protest movements in the Netherlands. Drawing on social movement studies, music studies, and political science, the project examines how music in and around climate movements in the Netherlands are interpreted and emotionally experienced by both, the activists and broader Dutch society.
Valerie holds a MSc in International Development Studies from Wageningen University and wrote her master thesis on the emotional wellbeing of student climate activists.
