Rianne Kooi is a PhD candidate at the Behavioural Science Institute, Department of Orthopedagogics: Learning and Development. Her doctoral research focuses on supporting self-regulated learning with adaptive learning technologies in the upper grades of primary school. She is conducting research on a student dashboard where students actively set goals before practicing with an adaptive learning technology. While practicing, students can see in real-time on a student dashboard how they are progressing towards the set goal. Students can use this information to regulate their learning, such as choosing a different strategy, seeking more challenge, or asking for help. Rianne is investigating how students interpret and use the information on the student dashboard, what happens when students also have control over the difficulty level of the selected tasks, and how this is related to student characteristics.
