Bert Kos’ research investigates how law becomes meaningful for individuals facing injustice. While the legal system is often seen as objective and abstract, it constantly engages with the subjective realities of people’s lives. Drawing on existentialism, phenomenology and literature, he examines the lived experience of injustice and explores how the law might respond to such experiences. His dissertation focuses on the position of the victim within criminal law, with particular attention to the meaning and role of redress and recognition for victims in the pursuit of justice.

Bert Kos obtained bachelor's degrees in Law and History from Utrecht University. He then completed master's degrees in Encyclopaedia and Philosophy of Law (cum laude) and Modern European Philosophy at Leiden University.
