Professor Bart-Jan Kullberg FRCP is professor of internal medicine and infectious diseases, and co-founder of the Radboudumc Center for Infectious Diseases (RCI): a centre of excellence coordinating all activities of the Radboud University Medical Center in the areas of patient care, training and education on infectious diseases.

Since 2020, he has served as the chairperson of the Heath Council of the Netherlands, the highest independent scientific advisory board to the government in the area of public health and healthcare.

The main focus of his research has been treatment of severe infections, and to clarify the role of the immune system against infection. He is an international expert on the treatment of life-threatening fungal infections in the intensive care and in immunocompromised patients. He has served as principal investigator of various international studies on new treatment modalities in this area. In addition, he is an expert on antibiotic policy and antibiotic stewardship in hospitals.
