I am interested in the electronic and magnetic properties of materials, especially in those materials where the repulsive interaction between electrons is strong. Unexpected things can happen in these materials, such the appearance of a "traffic jam" of electrons that turns a metallic system into a so-called Mott insulator.
To study these systems, I use a variety of theoretical and computational techniques from quantum many-body physics and condensed matter theory, with the aim of bridging the gap between models used by theoretical physicists and material-specific first-principle methods. My primary expertise is in dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) and its extensions.
