Professor Manuth is a professor in Art History. His areas of interest are:

painting (including drawing and printing) in the northern and southern Netherlands, in England and in the German-speaking countries of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries;
Christian iconography (religious objects in art) and the Catholic and Protestant theological background to the production of art during the Renaissance and Baroque periods;
Albrecht Dürer and his contemporaries;
Rembrandt and the Rembrandt school;
portrait history: portraits of individuals and groups as biblical, mythological or historical figures;
the history of collecting and reception of Dutch art from the Golden Age.

Professor Manuth is also the first honorary curator of 17th century art at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (scientific advisor).
