Marte Sophie is an art historian specialized in early modern graphic art. She holds a BA and a research MA degree from Utrecht University. In 2016 and 2017, she interned at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford. Since 2018, Marte Sophie worked on several projects at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
Her PhD project investigates the conceptualization of gravity in the visual arts, before and after Newton’s treatises in 1687. The study will focus on seventeenth-century Dutch culture and uses a phenomenological approach to analyse textual and visual material. Marte Sophie will explore what it means to experience gravity through art.
