Dr J.H. Mentink (Johan)
Working days

Johan Mentink is an expert in theoretical and computational physics, focusing on pushing the limits for the control of magnetism at the shortest length and time scales. He is a recipient of the NWO Rubicon, Veni and Vidi grants.
Mentink is also interested in neuromorphic computing, which takes inspiration from the human brain to realise faster and more energy-efficient computing. In 2021, he initiated research to explore the potential of neuromorphic computing for computational science, together with SURF and researchers from Radboud University, the University of Twente and IBM. This collaboration led to the founding of Neuromorphic Computing NL in 2025, of which Mentink is the figure head.
