Professor Henk Meurs conducts research into the relationship between spatial development and mobility. Why is there such increased mobility? How will it continue to develop and which measures influence it? The construction of new infrastructure is sometimes necessary, but in time results in increased mobility. Pricing policy (a kilometre tax) should increase compatibility between spatial and transport policy. Transport experts and spatial planners will have to work together much earlier in the planning process than they do at present. Professor Meurs has experience in policy development and evaluation in areas such as road infrastructure, public transport and cycling, on a wide range of spatial levels. He is director of the MuConsult consultancy firm in Amersfoort.
