I study how people control walking and maintain balance, particularly when stabilizing movement becomes challenging. By combining laboratory experiments with computer simulations, I investigate how changes in sensory and motor function, for example, due to lower-limb amputation or ageing, influence the strategies people use to stabilize walking. My work combines biomechanical and physiological measurements with computational models to better understand how humans adapt control to internal and external disturbances. At the Donders Institute, I focus on how the brain uses sensory information to coordinate muscle activity and maintain stability during challenging movements.
