Karthika is a PhD candidate participating in the ERC-funded research project on the ‘gig economy’, where she focuses on studying online labour markets. Her research aims to gain a better understanding of how the gig economy operates with regard to its institutional foundations, its impacts on national labour markets and needs for regulation.
Karthika holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (NL) and the University of Bristol (UK). She has previously worked in both the private and non-profit sector, conducting research and providing consulting services for professional associations and regulatory bodies, an online platform in the care market and an NGO advocating for human rights issues of workers in the global value chain.
Her research interests encompass labour market dynamics, entrepreneurship, innovation systems, European governance and rightsholder engagement, as well as qualitative research methods. Teaching duties include bachelor thesis supervision.
