Karin van Nieuwkerk is an anthropologist and chair of contemporary Islam in the Middle East and Europe. She has published widely on gender, migration, Islam and popular culture and religious transformation processes such moving in and out of Islam. She coordinated the NWO project Islam and the Performing Arts.
