Ricky van Oers is Assistant Professor of Sociology of Law and Migration Law with a specific interest in the topic of 'Migrant inclusion: social justice, information and communication'. She defended her PhD research Deserving Citizenship. Citizenship Tests in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK (Brill, 2014) at the Radboud University in 2013. In 2014, the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation awarded her one of five Research Prizes.
In 2025, Ricky van Oers received a NWO XS grant to study the role of social class for people on the move . An immigrant’s social class position shapes their ability to navigate migration laws and acquire a legal migration status. Once settled, laws and policies will determine which constraints immigrants will face and which opportunities they are offered, thereby affecting their class position. By analyzing the interaction of social class and laws and policies both pre-and post-mobility, the present project will make it possible to paint a complete picture of this interaction, thereby addressing a gap in our knowledge on the functioning of social class in immigrants’ lives. The project is part of the broader 'Migration-Class Nexus' project.
Ricky van Oers studied law at Radboud University and the Université Paris Descartes. Since 1 April 2021, Van Oers is Professor of Immigrant inclusion & law (20%) at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
