A.M. Pierik (Maaike)

I am a PhD candidate studying the interactions of astronomers of the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT) with different groups in Namibian society. The AMT is a radio telescope that will be built in Namibia as part of the Event Horizon Telescope network.
My research investigates (1) how astronomers of the AMT interact with societal actors in Namibia, (2) which priorities and concerns Namibian societal actors have in relation to the AMT and how these can be taken into account in the AMT project and (3) whether current interactions of AMT astronomers with Namibian actors provide space to take into account Namibians’ priorities and concerns.
