Professor Ger Pruijn researches the structure and biological function of biomolecular complexes, in particular RNA-protein complexes that ensure the correct working of fundamental intracellular processes. Such complexes are often recognized by antibodies found as a result of autoimmune disorders.
Professor Pruijn's group also researches the role of post-translational protein modification in the development of autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and Type 1 diabetes. This research is important in the development of new diagnostic tests and drugs for autoimmune diseases. Through the spin-off company ModiQuest, the expert knowledge found in Pruijn's group finds its way into commercial applications.
