What do current migration laws reveal about who ‘belongs’ and who is excluded? Why are migrants' rights often subordinated to the interests of nation-states? How do our concepts of migration and political community change when we view them through the eyes of migrants themselves? What new ways of thinking about migration law does this enable?
As a PhD candidate, Simon van Ramshorst explores these questions in his research into the philosophical foundations of international migration law. His academic interests lie in political philosophy in general and decolonial theory in particular. He has been affiliated with the department of legal philosophy at Radboud University since January 2025. Previously, he completed a research master's degree in Philosophy (cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam and bachelor's degrees in Philosophy (cum laude) and Dutch Law at Radboud University.
