My PhD project explores the way humans attribute meaning to non-verbal conduct. To investigate this, I look at interaction between humans and nonhuman animals, and humans and robots, using a Conversation Analytic approach. Understanding when behavior gets treated like it has communicative meaning, i.e., when it becomes a (relevant) signal, will add to linguistic theory on human communication and sense-making.
