In order to maintain future sustainability of our healthcare system, we need to ensure that
surgical innovations are affordable, effective, and of value for the patient. This requires a
paradigm shift from the traditionally separated processes of development, assessment, and
appraisal of surgical innovations to a framework featuring convergence, that is, the merging of
development and evaluation.
My major scientific strength is my cross-sectoral/ multidisciplinary approach. My international
projects and multi-center trials have shown that I am able to bring together the joint efforts of
internationally leading experts to further develop worldwide innovations.
