Lema Salah is an historian, diversity, equity & inclusivity expert and graduated in the topic of military gender policies (UNSCR1325). Her work focuses on qualitative research based on policy analysis, in-depth interviews and field research. In addition to a RMA in Historical, Literary & Cultural Studies (RU), she has completed a RMA minor in Gender Studies (Utrecht University). During her studies she carried out various research projects at the Ministry of Defense on gender related topics, where she also succesfully completed a Gender Training for Defense personnel. She is currently affiliated with the Netherlands Defense Academy and the Political Science department (RU) as a Ph.D. candidate. Her Ph.D. project is focused on leadership, organisational culture and retention among military personnel at Defense. Her research is specifically focussed the relation of military leadership, subcultures within organisational structures and retention, with a specific focus on the position of women and people with a migrant backgrond. Additionally, with this research she will combine both qualitative and quantitative research methods to provide an in-depth analysis.
