Professor Robert Sauerwein conducts research into malaria and is working on the development of a Plasmodium falciparum vaccination.

The Medical Parasitology department carries out the full academic spectrum of research, teaching and clinical services. Its malaria research is at the forefront of international research. International collaboration, which includes International Health with a focus on the tropics, is a well-known theme of Radboud University.

The Medical Parasitology department is part of the Patient Care Laboratory (Patiëntenzorglaboratorium) within Medical Microbiology and provides diagnostic and clinical advisory services concerning parasites for Radboud university medical center.
