In my research project, I delve into fish welfare concepts and practices used across aquaculture, experimental labs and zoos or aquariums. I hope to learn more about how scientists conceptualize affective states within welfare assessments in fish, about the benefits and challenges of potential epistemological pluralism among fish welfare practices, and to bring attention to a group of species that is often neglected within animal welfare science. Previously, I have studied how scientists justify their choice of animal model(s) in the field of xenotransplantation and how (non)epistemic factors influence this choice.
