Casper Smeulders is a PhD candidate at the Department of Jurisprudence and affiliated with the Research Centre for State and Law. His doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Roel Schutgens (Radboud University), Prof. Joost Sillen (Maastricht University) and Dr. Rowin Jansen (Radboud University) focusses on the state of emergency in Dutch constitutional law. He is also interested in the adjudication of politically sensitive cases.
Prior to his PhD studies, Casper obtained a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws, summa cum laude, in Constitutional and Administrative Law from Radboud University. He also holds an Master of Laws, cum laude, in Legal Research from the University of Groningen. As a law student, he was research assistant at the Centre for Parliamentary History and teaching assistant at the Department of Jurisprudence.
