J. Snaterse (Joost)

Joost Snaterse studied History in Nijmegen, Munich, and Edinburgh. On multiple occasions he stayed at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR) for both research and course work. In 2016 he was a research intern at the Kommission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik (Munich).

His current doctoral research (RICH/HLCS, 2018-2023) focusses on the role of charitable institutions and the care for the body in late antique and middle Byzantine urban centres. Within this project, special attention is given to the role of gender, class, and rituals as both creators and markers of social boundaries in the urban landscape. The project is an affiliated PhD-project at the KNIR.

In 2020 he also acted as one of the co-ordinators of OIKOS, the Dutch National Research School in Classical Studies.
