My research project is concerned with the language of pain. More specifically, I want to investigate how pain-related cultural differences between the ethnic groups of Bolivia (South America) reflect in their language use and structure. For this purpose, I am planning a field study that will gather data on pain expressions and terminology in Bolivian Spanish and Quechua.
I hope that through my research I can help to break the language barrier between Spanish-speaking medical practitioners and Quechua-speaking patients.
