Professor Anne Speckens studies mental processes (such as the interpretation of situations, remembering things) that are involved in the development and/or persistence of depression and anxiety. In her research, she combines psychological experiments with imaging techniques, such as functional MRI research. She investigates processes that take place in the brain when people feel depressed or anxious and how these change under the influence of cognitive behavioural therapy, for instance.
