Prof. M. Steenmeijer (Maarten)

Professor Maarten Steenmeijer is an expert in modern Spanish and Spanish-American literature and culture. His areas of expertise are the modern literature and culture of Spain and Spanish America, as well as literary translation, and popular music. His current research projects are: Literary translation as a form of creative writing; Spanish and Spanish American literature in translation; The work of Javier Marías; Rock life writing. Besides being a scholar, Maarten Steenmeijer is also translator of modern Spanish and Spanish-American literature, newspaper critic (de Volkskrant), poet (Dit is niet Amerika, 2001), and author. The spring of 2004 saw the publication of his book Golden Earring: Rock die niet roest. Other publications include: El columnismo de escritores españoles (1975-2005) (with Alexis Grohmann, 2006); Een continent in het klein: Cultuurwijzer voor het moderne Spanje (2007); Allí donde uno diría que ya no puede haber nada.
