Marthe Stevens studies the use of (data-intensive) technology in healthcare and the biomedical research domain. Her work combines insights from Philosophy of Technology, Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Healthcare Policy and Management literature to reflect on the societal consequences of technological innovations.

She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political Philosophy and Ethics and also works for Radboud University’s Interdisciplinary Hub on Digitalization and Society (iHub). She is involved in “the Digital Good” project that focuses on the “Googlization of health” by studying collaborations between the Big Tech companies, and health researchers and other medical professionals.

Marthe studied philosophy and health sciences at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and completed the graduate program in STS at the Netherlands Graduate Research School of Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC). She holds a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2021), in which she studied what happens when promises surrounding big data and AI become drivers for concrete initiatives in healthcare.

Research interests: data-intensive healthcare technology (AI), medical decision-making, prediction in medicine, digital biomarkers, digital clinical trials, big tech, empirical (qualitative) research
