Reinout is assistant professor of European integration in the department of Political Science.
Reinout's research interests lie in the areas of EU and EMU politics, the functioning, politicisation and legitimacy of international organizations, the role of expertise in liberal democracy, and social science methodology.
Reinout obtained his PhD (cum laude) at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2020. His dissertation, 'Enforcing the Unenforceable', won the Van Poelje Prize 2020 for the best dissertation in Public Administration at a Dutch or Flemish university. Prior to starting his position in Nijmegen, Reinout worked as a senior researcher at the Netherlands Court of Audit in The Hague, and held a position as visiting researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
