Reinout is assistant professor of International Relations in the department of Political Science.
Reinout's research interests lie in the functioning and legitimacy of international organizations such as the EU and the UN. He conducts research on various topics, including the politicization and responsiveness of international institutions with executive mandates, the role of expertise in decision-making, and public opinion regarding international organizations. Starting in 2024, Reinout will be working on a Veni project in which he will investigate how experts and elites within international organizations think about and decide on bringing together their expertise and societal demands.
Reinout obtained his PhD (cum laude) at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2020. His dissertation, 'Enforcing the Unenforceable', won the Van Poelje Prize 2020 for the best dissertation in Public Administration at a Dutch or Flemish university. Prior to starting his position in Nijmegen, Reinout worked as a senior researcher at the Netherlands Court of Audit in The Hague, and held a position as visiting researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
