Eef Veldkamp is a PhD candidate at the Center for the History of Philosophy and Science (CHPS). Alongside Veldkamp is an engaged artist, philosopher and lecturer at ArtEZ University of the Arts. With methodological approaches mainly inspired by the Frankfurter Schule and other Critical Theories, Veldkamp questions social ideologies and proposes artistic/activist alternatives - for example by founding collaborative organisations that nudge non-artistic audiences into practices yet unfamiliar to them. His most recent book publications are Capitalist Nihilism and the Murder of Art (Aporia, 2020) and On the Contrary: Rethinking Engaged Art in an Age of Social Unrest (ArtEZ Press, 2024).
In his PhD research, Veldkamp focuses on a cultural analysis based on biopolitics and performativity. It aims to provide a theory of performativity within the discourse of biopolitics and, coherently, use it to improve the philosophical understanding of peculiar cultural expression like swearing with diseases.
