Aquatic ecosystems can emit large quantities of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. They also host a huge microbial diversity. My research focuses on the role of aquatic microbes in the production and consumption of methane and nitrous oxide. I study these microbial transformations in a variety of aquatic ecosystems; from man-made ditches and effluent polishing systems, to arctic ponds.
