Researcher - Orthopedagogics: Learning and Development

Dr Z. Vermeire (Zowi)
Working days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

As a scholar positioned between the humanities and social sciences, I strive to understand how education and technology can help to confront the pertinent social issues of our current age.

Currently I work at NOLAI, researching the pedagogical implications of working with AI in education. In my PhD thesis I researched how young people create their own alternative ways of learning on YouTube, Twitch and TikTok.

In my research on education and technology I am always driven to understand the underlying structures for learning in which I center young people themselves. Which pedagogical structures steer implicitly and explicitly young people's learning? To answer such questions I use mostly qualitative methods, such as ethnography and interviews.

Currently I work as a research at NOLAI. NOLAI is the national educational AI lab for primary and secondary education in the Netherlands, funded by the National Growth Fund (€143 million for the period 2022-2035). In dozens of projects at schools throughout the Netherlands, we develop and research responsible educational AI. Unique is our focus on the cooperation between education, scientists and business (EdTech). Read more at www.nolai.nl. At NOLAI I research the co-implementation of Snappet Copilot at primary schools in the Netherlands. I am also working on getting young people's perspectives involved at NOLAI.
