Prof. B.P. Vermeulen (Ben)

Professor Dr. B.P. (Ben) Vermeulen, emeritus education law in the constitutional law section, is a specialist in Dutch and international constitutional educational law. He has written and writes extensively on the provision on education in the Dutch Constitution (Article 23 of the Constitution), on integration/education issues, and on the education system in relation to the democratic rule of law state. Furthermore, he writes on other constitional law issues, in particular on fundamental rights and freedoms. Ben Vermeulen was a member of the Educational Council (1994-2008) and the Advisory Committee on Migration Affairs (ACVZ, 2001-2008). As from February 2008, Vermeulen has been a member of the Council of State, as a judge in the Judicial Division and until August 2024 as a member of the Advisory Division of the Council of State.
