Eric Visser is an expert on how plants respond to abiotic stresses such as drought, nutrient deficiency, shading and flooding, and on how plant root systems adjust to the conditions in the soil. He studies the impact of environmental conditions on plant growth and root development in field conditions, but is also interested in how plant hormone action and gene regulation regulate the subsequent phenotypic responses of root and shoot development. Main current topics are the construction of dike grasslands with new seed mixtures and higher biodiversity, precision fertilization, root growth responses to local nutrients and drought and developing new root stocks to withstand abiotic stress.
