Professor Vissers is an anaesthesiologist engaged in the following research themes:

- improvement of the healthcare chain in patients in the palliative phase of healthcare;
- improvements of the healthcare chain in patients with chronic pain;
- quality-of-life in palliative care and in terminal disorders;
- predictability and optimization of care in patients with terminal disorders;
- the developmental mechanisms of chronic neuropathic pain and pain caused by injuries to the nervous system;
- cognitive disorders due to the chronic use of opiates;
- tolerance of opiates and opiate rotation schemes;
- translational research.
