She has been teaching for over 15 years, as a computer science and mathematics teacher in secondary education, a guest lecturer for computer science at the Radboud University and instructor for requirements engineering in CS (Computer Science) Industry.

Renske attained her Master university degrees in Computer Science, and teaching Computer Science and Mathematics (all cum laude). She currently combines teaching at secondary education with her PhD research at the Radboud University Nijmegen. Her research interests are teaching and assessing Computer Science in secondary education, with a specific focus on algorithms and programming.

Renske considers her position as a PhD student as an opportunity to bring her own knowledge about computer science pedagogy to another level, but also to share this knowledge with others in a meaningful manner. As such, she integrates what she learns into lesson materials as one of the authors of Informatica Actief (one of the two CS publishers for secondary education in the Netherlands), a sparring partner for the CS Central exam (CvTE), as well as professional development courses across the country for secondary education teachers and as educators of teachers. Her primary passion is enthusing students, especially those talented, creative and successful teenagers who first thought computer science wouldn’t be ‘their thing’, and with that in mind, co-founded a CS unplugged lesson materials aligned to the reformed secondary education curriculum in the Netherlands.
